Tadoba 2019 (Year Round)

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

The Tadoba Andhari Tiger reserve is located in the State of Maharashtra. It is the largest National Park in Maharashtra, the reserve comprises of 1727 sq km of protected forests. There are approximately 88 tigers within national reserve and another 58 in the buffer areas as of August 2016.  In April and May the grassland and undergrowth dies back and as a result visibility in the Forest improves and animals are attracted to the surviving water bodies.

The concentration of game in the park is some of the highest I have seen in India with very frequent Tiger sightings. In April 2017 out of nine safari drives we only had one drive in which we did not have a tiger sighting. Sloth Bear is also found here as well as leopard. Once or twice during the week Indian Wild Dog will also be spotted. Prey species abound and Spotted deer, Sambar and Nilgai are found throughout the park, as well as Gaur, the largest wild cattle in the world.

Tadoba also has an interesting mix of Landscapes with Teak forest giving way to bamboo groves as well as large lakes like Tadoba and Jamni.

Local knowledge is vitally important and we will have Aniruddha Goswami who has been guiding in Tadoba for the last six years accompany us on each of our drives. He has worked for the last decade as a Guide in the Central Indian Parks and has a wealth of knowledge about the local wildlife. Our drivers are also used to driving most of India's leading Photographers around the park.

We will have two Maruti Gypsy Vehicles.  I have always believed that spending an extended period of time in one wildlife location is most rewarding as you get a true sense of the forest and the movements of the animals. This is why we have decided to run this safari over the period of one week from the Kolara Gate of the reserve. The safari includes all domestic flights as well as 6 nights accommodation (full board) at Kolara and two nights accommodation in Delhi.

Accommodation

Accommodation options are limited at Morli with the major Indian hotel chains being absent. However there are some good independent Safari lodges present. We will be staying at Svasara Jungle Lodge. All rooms are air conditioned. The resort also has a swimming pool and limited wifi access in the common areas. The local custom dictates that the lunch meal is vegetarian, non vegetarian fare will be served at dinner. Meals consist of mainly Indian fare.

The district of Chadrapur in Maharashtra is a "Dry" district and any carriage of alcohol is strictly prohibited. Unfortunately this means no G n T's by the fire! However the wildlife will more than make up for this! Please see the India section of this website for sample images of the kind of wildlife we will see during this safari.

A typical Day on Safari

A typical day on Safari begins with Chai and biscuits with your wake up call at 4.30am. We leave to Kolarai gate by 5am and are in place by 5.15am. Kolara gate is only 300m away. A packed breakfast is available to be taken with us. If guests prefer they can also dine when the morning round finishes around 10. After breakfast you can lounge in the pool or have a nap till lunch time which is usually at around 1. The evening round starts at 3, with an excellent chance of spotting tigers lounging in water. The evening round ends at 630pm. Dinner is taken around 8. I will be available throughout the day to help with any photographic questions you might have. I will also alternate between jeeps on successive drives so I can help with any questions you might have on wildlife photography.
